Cortney Chaite is a coach, author and speaker who inspires highly sensitive people (HSPs) to uncover and own their inner badass.
An expert in health, self-care and environment, Cortney brings training and experience that back up the strategies and support she provides to navigate the bridge between inner and outer worlds – where so many highly sensitive folk struggle.
As an undergraduate at Vassar, one of the top liberal arts colleges in the U.S., she instinctively surrounded herself with nature on a campus featuring 400 acres of ecological preserve. Deeply moved by the arts like so many HSPs, Cortney majored in Art History, learning the inherent value of beauty and expression as a necessary and needed element of the human experience, and – not coincidentally – studying a veritable Who’s Who of HSPs, intuitively setting her own and fellow HSPs’ experience within a historical context.
Where her undergrad centered on artists’ inner world expression in the outer world, Cortney’s graduate studies gave her valuable training in how external environments impact us internally. Drawn to another prestigious and verdant campus, Cortney earned her Master of Architecture, with focus on Sustainability, from the Catholic University of America.
There, she uncovered a passion for interiors and creating homes: environments that bring energy, and positively affect how you feel. Understanding and creating our environment from the ground up (literally) proved invaluable in creating the structures and systems that transform the lives of her coaching clients.
Academic met real-world application when, a few years after graduation, long-time issues with health, anxiety and depression
Realizing that she couldn’t show up as the mother and wife and person she knew she could be, yearned to be, if she didn’t take care of her health first, Cortney began the step-by-step journey of turning her health around.
Not one to be satisfied with a superficial understanding (as a natural student and teacher, with the ability and drive to understand concepts deeply – as she would discover later, another identifying characteristic of the HSP), Cortney embarked on her certification as a health coach with the renowned Institute of Integrative Nutrition, the world’s largest nutrition school, grown to 100K+ students and graduates in 100+ countries since its inception in 1992.
Studying 100+ dietary theories, practical lifestyle management techniques, and innovative coaching methods, Cortney became a “health architect,” dealing with her own health crisis and struggle to manage anxiety and depression. She emerged stronger, happier, and 20 pounds lighter.
It was a lightning bolt of recognition
Now, she helps other HSP’s understand how to manage their gift – and yes, it is a gift! although it sure doesn’t feel like one at first – through massive shifts in self-care, acceptance, compassion and mindset. Author of the popular ElephantJournal.com article, Self-Care for the Highly Sensitive Person, garnering 225K+ views and 10K+ shares, she is currently at work on the definitive book on uncovering your own inner Highly Sensitive Badass.
Relentless in her pursuit of self-development and on fire to offer her clients even more tools and strategies to leverage their high sensitivity to work for them instead of against them, Cortney is a proud graduate of Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts Mastery program, a NYC institution that teaches women to use the power of pleasure to have their way with the world, and is in training with Gabrielle Bernstein, NYT bestselling author and thought leader on happiness and conscious living.
Cortney lives in Baltimore with her 2 kids, her 2 dogs and her husband. A Nia teacher, passionate photog, gardener and foodie, when she isn’t dancing, Cortney is all about engaging all of her senses in service to her inner badass—and awakening the inner badass in every highly sensitive person she encounters!
